Don’t Forget Sunscreen!

Hey readers! I apologize for going on a slight hiatus due to finals, but I’m back! So I’m sure we’ve all been enjoying the sun this weekend, but don’t forget the sunscreen. I know I’m guilty of trying to get a tan every now and then. There are some misconceptions I would like to clear up about sunscreen and protecting the skin. Sunscreen in your makeup is NOT sufficient protection. Makeup wears off through the day and is not completely absorbed by the skin, which still leaves it vulnerable to ultraviolet rays. If you have dark skin, you still need to wear sunscreen. Yes, it is true that darker skin types aren’t as vulnerable to dark spots and usually never burn. However, the sun ages everybody by breaking down collagen and elastin in the skin. Once those bonds are broken, they can NEVER be repaired. There are no creams or surgeries that can repair that kind of damage…at least not yet. A sunscreen that I recommend for anti-aging protection is a tinted moisturizer with SPF by Revision Skincare. This sunscreen won an award from New Beauty Magazine. It helps smooths lines and wrinkles and its formulated to match and skin tone. Enjoy the weekend :)

Turn Back Time with IPL Photo Rejuvenation

Dark spots have you regretting those days in the sun? Sun damage is the main concern of most women nowadays. Stubborn spots and redness from yesteryear just won’t go away. One of the most effective  treatments I have worked with is intense pulsated light (IPL). IPL works like a laser and uses multiple wavelengths to target a chromophore in the skin. The light causes the protein in melanin to coagulate and POOF it flakes off like a scab. Redness can also be treated resulting in beautiful, even skin tone. However, there is no gain without pain. Numbing cream is always an option. When I perform the treatment, I have an ice pack at hand to relieve discomfort. IPL treatments cost around $250-350 per treatment, making it more affordable than laser resurfacing. Not to mention there is no downtime. Redness subsides within a few hours. Most patients require three to four treatments a month apart to ensure long term results. Of course sunscreen is important so that no dark spots come back and the skin is protected. I interested in the treatment I recommend doing your research to find a good medical spa or doctor’s office. In regards to laser treatments, groupon is not the way to go. There is a reason people need to discount their services. Below is a picture of what the machine looks like. Comment please!

Laser Hair Removal Thoughts

Up and running again! Enjoying my new macbook after my gateway died. So I have been preparing for the warmer weather my lasering some excess body hair off. Sounds like a party doesn’t it? I recently got my armpits done my wonderful co-worker/friend Azar. She used Candella’s GentleLase on me about three weeks ago. My hair completely fell out of the follicle a week later as I continued to shave. So far no hair has come back. I am very responsive to lasers because I have light skin and dark hair. The combo makes it easier for the laser to target the pigment and zap it! Darker skin types may require more treatments. We also use a different type of laser with less energy for skin types darker than skin type three. I will most likely need about five more treatments to completely remove all hair completely. Consecutive treatments are very important so that the follicle is continually zapped and hair growth subsides. Anyways totally worth it if you can take the pain. Personally, I don’t think its that bad, but the upper lip and bikini area isn’t super pleasant. Thanks for stopping by! Please comment!

Lash Magic: Latisse Review

Who doesn’t want longer lashes? I recently received a prescription for Latisse. Latisse is advertised for people with “inadequate, or not enough lashes”. Lol I think that includes most of us, no? The solution comes in a small eye drop bottle. I apply once at night to my upper lashes and eyebrows. It has been about two weeks and everything is looking good! My lashes are noticeably fuller and longer. With a sweep of mascara they look just fabulous! I also highly recommend this product to girls who are trying to grow their eyebrows out. Eyebrows grow slowly and the prescription will help them to grow faster and fuller. Some patients have concerns with eyelid or eye darkening. As a professional trained in Latisse, there have been no reports of change in eye color while using the solution. They only precaution this because it is made of the same solution used for patients with cataracts, and some have experienced pigmentation. The solution is Rx only, so a prescription from a doctor is required. Most of the time they will have it in their office and you can buy it there. I got mine from my job at a medical spa. Makeup Review: Jane Iredale Glow Time Mineral BB Cream

Surprise! Since I’m always trying new makeup products, I’ve decided to expand my blog and do some makeup reviews. I have been looking for a mineral foundation with full coverage, so I’ve decided to give Jane Iredale’s mineral BB cream a try. The cream is available in six colors; the shade I purchased is BB3, which is suitable for my fair skin tone. I tend to have oily skin so I usually stick to powder foundations, but it surprisingly kept my skin well balanced throughout the day.  The foundation is formulated to be hypoallergenic and noncomodegenic with a broad spectrum SPF 25. I do appreciate a foundation with sunscreen, but for the best protection I prefer it in my moisturizer so that my skin absorbs it completely. As far as coverage goes, it definitely concealed my acne spots really well. If full coverage is your preference, I highly recommend this product because its ingredients are non irritating and actually benefit the skin. It contains a variety of beneficial ingredients such as green tea extract, citrus extract, grapefruit, and sunflower. The texture was nice and gave my skin a “glow”. If you are going for dewy look, this is perfect! Overall I am impressed with this product and will definitely put it in my list of favorites :) Please leave me some comments I’d love to hear your thoughts!

The BEST Eye Treatment Cream

Most of you will think I’m crazy for using an eye cream at 21 and I won’t deny it. I mostly use it for preventative measures since the skin around the eyes is delicate and very susceptible to damage. Anyways, it’s called SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair and I adore it.  SkinMedica uses its patented TNS technology that is a mixture of growth factors and proteins to rejuvenate the skin. It also contains vitamins and peptides while reducing the appearance of dark circles. This product is definitely a bestseller and I recommend it anyone who is concerned with the appearance of their eyes. It lightens, brightens, and plumps which makes me look super awake even when I got practically no sleep. It has a creamy texture which fills in lines and wrinkles. If you apply eye makeup, this is a great primer. SkinMedica has been featured in New Beauty magazine and is an all-time favorite in the skincare industry. They promise results!

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!

Exfoliation is one of the most important steps in your skin care routine. The skin sheds naturally, but as we age that process slows down. Regardless, everybody wants baby skin and this is how you get it. There are two types of exfoliation, mechanical and chemical. A chemical exfoliant penetrates below the surface for a deeper exfoliation. A mechanical exfoliant usually has a gritty texture to tackle dead skin on the surface. My personal preference is a chemical exfoliant (something with an alpha hydroxy acid in it) because it is more effective at smoothing lines and wrinkles, as well as clearing up skin. Adding the proper exfoliant to your routine will make a huge difference whether you have dull, dry, oily, aging or acne prone skin. A product that is great for everyone is Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant. Like the name implies, you can use it daily to enhance your skin. It uses rice enzymes and salicylic acid to slough off dead skin cells and lighten brighten your complexion.
